The Pain Nobody Talks About in Today’s Job Market | The Harsh Reality of Jobs, Salaries, Rising Costs & Metro Cities | Why So Many Skilled Professionals Feel Stuck Today
I dont know what you need today to get a decent job that pays at least reasonably well, even if you have good education, work experience, and are serious with your profession, considering the rising cost of inflation of almost everything that you need today to survive.
Even 10 years back, the salary range was quite better as the real price index at that time was low. But in today’s context, if you need to survive at least moderately well, your earning needs to be high.
Unfortunately, the job market today, that I can see clearly with my open eyes, is that all jobs today are first of all heavily scattered around major metro cities only. And going to a metro city and starting life afresh is next to impossible if your bank balance is not that high.
Now secondly, living in metro cities opens you up to new challenges, which you might have taken for granted in tier 2 cities.
Take for instance, the house rent in a tier 2 city with a 2BHK doesnt burn a hole in your pocket the way living in metro cities does.
The Great Metro City Dream
Forget the house rent advance and agreement through which you have to part with your hard-earned money and pay an advance of 3-4 months or more… exactly I dont know what’s trending these days in cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, and Hyderabad… and interestingly, the advance rent that you pay, you wont get back with a 100% return even when you leave the house… so this is a clear case of muscle-flexing by house owners and landlords! But what can we do?
Now, coming to my first part… the salary also has to rise every year. Many times, clients or even your employer think employees want appraisal out of nothing. But the real reason is the rising cost of everything. Be it medical expense, your house rent, or even something as simple as vegetable price… with every new year, you will see the price of everything rise.
Those who have a side hustle need not worry. As their side work can act as a cushion for themselves with some much-needed extra income until the company reviews the salary range, but those who are solely into employment and have no side income, it is very risky and saddening.
Is Your HR Manager Listening or Reading This?
When someone puts his soul, mind, and everything into his job, his expectations also rise. He expects a good salary along with increment every year. He just wishes and wishes as he has a home to run and a family to take care of.
Another problem that I’ve personally experienced on the job front with remote jobs these days is that many people want to do so professionally and on a full-time serious basis. But at the same time, many on-site full-time employees think of remote work as a side hustle after they come back home from office and can carry the same till midnight.
Moreover, when 1000s of candidates already working elsewhere apply without reading the full description for a single remote job, the competition is bound to rise, which leads to many serious candidates also not getting a callback from the HR team even after applying to that job and fulfilling all eligibility criteria.
So my humble appeal to employers and those who post their job requirements on LinkedIn and other job portals, is to at least read the whole CV yourself before rejecting any candidates. Just getting them checked by AI or ATS (Application Tracking System) is a brutal injustice to them.
Someone who applies to your job out of either joblessness, or someone who urgently needs a job change because of any reasons, or someone who is running short of money, deserves some love and respect from employers.
In Conclusion
And one more thing, if possible, remove the ceiling of on-site full-time… as this single clause can demolish the dreams of many educated youth and job aspirants who fought against all odds at home, office, university, farm, and shops…. whatever vocation their parents forced them into… to apply for your job post.
As far as possible, hire remote employees as nowadays the tasks that your full-time onsite employees are doing at the office can be easily done from home, too!
