Today, I will guide you on how to prepare yourself for MAJMC 1st Year Practicals for IGNOU. So, guys, first things first… I will only discuss the procedure that my RC follows: Patna. I am sure most of the RCs will also follow a similar procedure or a slightly different one, but overall the process will remain the same.

So, the first step is to understand that production portfolios for MJML-020/120 or MJML-021/121 are to be handwritten only. Your viva examiner will check every activity from start to end. So, you shouldn’t put anything typed in it. Each activity must be done in your own handwriting.

Now, for your help and better understanding, I will explain everything in an elaborative manner:

For MJML-020/120: You have to complete 15 activities as mentioned in the pic.

Activity #1 to #10 is all about news and article writing… try to write it well and within 500-750 words maximum as per the instructions.

For Activity #11, you have to take an interview of an academician, social worker, or politician.

I think, as a student, it would be better if you reach out to an academician for an interview. Students tend to talk about education and thus your portfolio can remain non-controversial. And it will be easier for you to just talk to any academician, ask for their time, and conduct an interview over Zoom/Gmeet or face-to-face, whichever suits you.

For Activity #12, you have to just take two photographs and give captions to each of them. It should be newsy. In case you are running short of ideas, here are some hints: pictures of piled garbage, cracked roads, insects or birds, or even simply mountains and hills or anything newsy like that which is in the news.

Activity #13 is about an article, which should contain 1-2 bar graphs or pie charts. I would suggest you choose a topic like how India’s GDP growth touched new heights in 2025, or how India is alleviating its poverty year by year, etc.

In Activity #14, you have to design the front page of a lab journal. You can make the front page on Canva with the headline of the journal and also mention 2-3 titles of other related news items. Since it is called a lab journal, it should relate to science or medicine or anything that happens in a lab—mostly research-based. You have to just design the front page, no need to write reports in it.

Now coming to the final question which is #15, you have to create a website and submit its 5 pages in hard copy (printouts). You have two ways of doing it: either create a news website from scratch using Notepad and HTML. Alternatively, you can use CMS or WordPress and create a news website and submit its hard copies.

Submission

Submit your portfolio in the same way as you submit your assignment at your Study Center or Regional Center. However, in case they follow any other procedure, you will have to follow that. Moreover, you always need to pay the exam fee for these two portfolio courses @ Rs. 500/- INR each (as of August 2025).

Please note

For activities #12 to #15, you must include all of them as instructed into a pen drive (recommended) or in a DVD (likely to be not available). Give a name to this folder with your name and enrolment number. Make sure while submitting this portfolio you also attach the pen drive with the same. The production portfolio of this course will be done in the same manner as you have done for other course assignments in IGNOU programs or other course codes.

Viva Exam

Most likely, your viva will be conducted between February and March if you have filled out the exam form for the December Term-End Exam, and between July and September if you have filled out the exam form for the June Term-End Exam. In other words, viva exams will always be conducted after the theory term-end exams.
