University of Phoenix Honors Military Veterans This Memorial Day

On the heels of Memorial Day 2021, University of Phoenix announced a display in memoriam of U.S. military members who gave their lives in active duty and service to our country. The tribute, titled “Remembering Our Fallen Tribute Towers,” was first displayed on Monday, May 24 and continued through Thursday, May 27.

The University invited the public to view “Remembering Our Fallen Tribute Towers” at its flagship campus located at 4025 South Riverpoint Parkway in Phoenix. University of Phoenix administration ensured that spectators could safely pay their respects at the memorial in person while adhering to social distancing guidelines set forth by the CDC.

The Messaging Behind the Tribute Towers

The display is a traveling photographic war memorial. Designed by Patriotic Productions, the tribute includes over 30 tower displays, each of which stands 10 feet high and five feet wide. The towers include thousands of images featuring our fallen soldiers during their time before, during and after course of service.

When thanking members of the military for their service, it is rare to stop and consider all of the ways that these brave men and women have put themselves in danger to preserve the safety of others. For this reason, the Tribute Towers display intends to invoke gratitude by shining a light on the sobering ways many active service members have paid the ultimate sacrifice. The Towers specifically honor fallen military members who died in combat, post 9/11. The tribute also includes military members who passed away stateside or during non-combat training exercises.

Patriotic Productions is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring the brave commitments made by the American military. Their mission is to pay homage to past and present military service members through the designation of cherished memories and events for future generations. The organization first created the Tribute Towers project nearly four years ago. The project’s first installation, known as the “Remembering Our Fallen” display, appeared on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in September 2017. Today, Patriotic Productions continues to unveil their Tribute Towers projects across the United States.

Paving the Way for Patriotism in Arizona

The Tribute Towers memorial is not only remarkable for its message. The project is incredibly moving given its context and timing with Memorial Day. Brian Ishmael, vice president of military veteran affairs and strategic government partnerships at University of Phoenix, also announced that the University is the first site in Arizona to display the Tribute Towers. Said Ishmael, “University of Phoenix is honored to be the first location in Arizona to display the Tribute Towers.” He further explained that “the tribute will be displayed ahead of Memorial Day to put names and faces to those we lost and remind us of the true meaning of the holiday. We welcome the community to come out and view this poignant display.”

University of Phoenix is proud of how they have uniquely positioned themselves to support United States military and veteran students. Because the University offers a robust online learning program, its flexible scheduling gives past and present military members a chance to earn their education without sacrificing their intentions to serve in the Armed Forces. The University also administers a Veterans Resource Center, where former military members can better understand the military benefits and G.I. Bill resources available to them.

The University of Phoenix is committed to helping military students and alumni achieve their higher education goals, the announcement regarding their display of the Tribute Towers came as no surprise. Every year, the University hosts a Flag Planting event to commemorate Memorial Day. University of Phoenix also extended a special invitation to Gold Star Families to participate in the Flag Planting and Tribute Towers presentation. These individuals represent the immediate family of military service members who passed away during their tour of service.
