Why Don’t People Read Classic Novels These Days?
This is the sad reality of our society. There are a lot of people who get everything in life just like a fairy-tale. Well, I often see, a kid, who studies at a nearby half-broken home tends to perform better at examination and life than other kids coming from well-to-do families.
The poor have to fight for their daily needs of life. In the context of books, middle class and the rich have to never worry abut buying books or anything. Once they wish to get a hold on the same, they just need to swap their Credit/ Debit cards, and get the same. But less-privileged people have to bear the brunt.
This Coronavrius pandemic has established a universal reality
The life that you curse or always criticise despite having a clear-cut access to all the basic stuff and luxiurious items in life, is a dream for many people.
Most of us are digital these days, we get a lot of information to read and share. But while doing so, somewhere, we lost the art of reading good books. Almost 65% of young readers will clearly nod their heads saying they haven’t read any books as yet.
By books, I meant the real-all-time classics authored by well-known fiction and non-fiction writers. This is not because they have no money to buy the book or classic novels, because they are simply not interested!
A lot of classic novels and their free versions are available online in PDF format.
They lack willpower, interest and concentration to read those lengthy books. On the other hand, you will find a lot of people who can’t even arrange their daily meals… get plenty of happiness on receiving a classic novel as a gift or donation.
Make no mistake.. The writing fad that we see daily on social media and our daily lives in the digital world, is nothing but a mirage. It gives people the false hope that they are writing. Sadly, a very few people read those novels written by these digital writers. I”m afraid to say their language remains below par, substandard and horrendous.
