The Magic Pen | Waiting for Magic in a Simple Pen | An Untold Confession
Before I begin, I want to wish you a Very Happy & Prosperous New Year – 2026.
No bragging. No narcissistic statement. Just straight talk.
I think of myself as pragmatic & rational 24*7, someone who doesn’t believe in serendipity, magic, or coincidence.
I live in a mad, mundane world that is sans any magic per se. But my core focus on a rationalist attitude took a backseat when I got hold of my THE MAGIC PEN!
Is It Really A Magic Pen?
My examination was going on from 1st Dec. to 30th Dec., with sufficient gaps in between. My preparation was damn good. I can assure you that I completed almost 90%+ of my syllabus with astute understanding.
However, on Boxing Day, things went flat! The exams went well, but I fell short of pens to finish off my exams in style!
That’s when I checked out my instrument box. I was surprised to find that The “MAGIC PEN” (my green Reynolds Jetter, image given here), which I refuse to throw away even if its ink goes out, was with me—with barely 15 minutes left before the bell rang and the teacher would snatch the answer copies.

And the rest is HISTORY! I successfully completed all my papers.
Over the past few years, I’ve developed a peculiar idiosyncrasy: I can’t use any pen other than the one I’ve been using for a while. Yes, it’s REYNOLDS JETTER, and so many of you would be using it, too.
Be it writing academic exams, signing professional contract forms, or even just putting my sign on bank cheque leaves, the pen refuses to leave me.
Like any student or writer, a pen holds a significant place in my mind, heart, body, & soul. Yet getting fascinated by an ordinary pen that costs less than “two cups of coffee” at a roadside shop feels unprecedented.
Call it emotion, habit, or just waiting for the magic, but this pen has now become the new normal for me. I usually buy new pens and throw old ones away, but I can’t even think of throwing away this otherwise mere 30-rupee ($0.5 approx.) Magic Pen.
It refuses to leave me.
Oh! I just forgot to tell you—just to treasure the ink of this “extra special” pen, I often switched pens during my exams to make sure that at least I was able to jot down a few words using it.
The pen may not last forever, but as long as it doesn’t get physically damaged, thankfully I can keep using it by refilling it whenever the ink runs out.

Moreover, I can’t even think of writing the pious four words—HAPPY & PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR—on greeting cards without using this MAGIC PEN.
In Conclusion
Yes, I used a Parker pen as well—of course, someone gifted it to me a long time back—but now, looking at that Parker pen, I feel my current Reynolds Jetter—a 30-rupee pen—is far more precious and invaluable, at least in the connection it has created with me since I bought it a few months ago.
Unfortunately, now that pen is just lying idle on my workdesk, of course without its soul—the ink.😂
