The Signature 2024 Movie Anupam Kher │ Plot Review │ Story Analysis │ Movie Review │ Film Explanation

Long time back, when the greatest of great English litterateur William Shakespeare said,
“Blow, blow, thou winter wind
Thou art not so unkind
As man’s ingratitude.” (INCOMPLETE)
He probably had an idea of what human ingratitude actually looks like in its worst form.
The movie unfolds as a playful couple arrived at an airport to alight an airplane. That’s when the old man’s wife slipped into a coma, and soon, the story got into minutes of detailing what financial draining can do even to an educated, well-to-do person. Interestingly, the movie explained so many things, revealing the layers of life in its truest sense.
The high cost of hospital expenses, the inability of insurance companies to insure old people, the reluctance of common people to come forward and help senior citizens and old people, and last but not least, how—when a son’s duty is to support his dad to save the life of his mom—he showed complete indifference. The story further shows the helplessness of a person when he tried to sell his house, but since his son was a co-owner of the joint property, he didn’t come forward to sell the house and rejected his dad’s proposal.
The Helplessness
Human life can be strange, but so are relationships. When one’s own son treats his mom like a burden and values property more than her life—despite being educated, suave, and urbanite and with good values—you can imagine how selfish and self-centered we have become over the years.
I am damn sure many of you would say it’s a fictional movie and adapted from the famous Marathi (Indian language) movie Anumati, but India is not averse to such cases. Day in and day out, you will find numerous property disputes where one’s own blood relatives kill the other and vice versa just for the sake of a few acres of land or property. Money is important, but certainly not something that should be prioritized ahead of human lives.
Now, coming back to this movie, I was stunned, flabbergasted, and shocked after watching the film. All the actors worked exceedingly well, and I can guarantee you that you’ll wipe your tears seeing the climax of the film at the end. An educated librarian who spent his whole life spending time with books and wisdom later got completely “the rug pulled out from under his feet” on realizing the true reality of the world—including his own son who, just like a selfish individual, prioritizes family property more than the life of his mom.
But once again, as we know, “a daughter is a daughter” till her last breath. The daughter came forward and handed some money to her dad for her mom’s treatment.
Conclusion
Have we really become so indifferent, selfish, and self-centered? Do others’ sufferings (oops! Read our own sufferings) really matter to us? Or are we living in the false glory of ‘being good humans’ when in reality, we are not?
