The festival Diwali is addressing as Deepavali, in some parts of North India, mainly in South India, the word; Deepavali is using to address this light of festival instead of Diwali.

As per Hinduism and as per the Hindu mythological and legendary story, that Diwali was the fateful night when Lord Rama comes back to his kingdom Ayodhya after defeating Ravana in the Lanka war. To welcome Lord Rama, the whole Ayodhya region was light with a massive number of lamps and diyas which also make light in each part of the Ayodhya kingdom which was only to do to celebrate the victory of Lord Rama. It was the Kingdom Ayodhya where the first festival Deepavali was celebrated.
