Ahead of the India-New Zealand series which is all set to begin from this Sunday, in Mumbai, India captain Virat Kohli protected the team’s decision to ‘rest’ off-spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
Virat Kohli is keen to say that the bowlers can also create stronger pool to choose from which will reflect the efforts of the team management.
This is going to be a limited overs format when the player Ashwin-Jadeja duo made way for wristies Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. The new spin duo is received huge accomplishment in the terms of cricket.
So it is obviously strange to see that how talented player like Jadeja and Ashwin can be miss from this consecutive series now.
It seems like now the cricket world is much more focus on the adding leg-spinners and wrist-spinners to the groove, it seems like their talents will be used properly and they can be part of the core team for the World Cup of 2019 also.
“We need to find out best bowling combinations before the World Cup, we always had in mind to bring wrist spinners. We didn’t want to play both together but now it’s too tempting considering the way they have been playing. It’s also about rhythm and understanding the workload of the bowlers. Ashwin and Jadeja have been playing for the past 6-7 years. We also have to see how much we expose certain bowlers who play for us across formats,” Virat Kohli said.
Virat Kohli just adds the chopping and cutting and also indicates that it have no connections with the team’s it is just simply better to understand all players which will be reflected at the team dynamics, “Despite all the talk which is going around, everyone understands the team dynamics going ahead.”
Don’t want Rahul rolling down the Rahane road
Alongside the oversight of Jadeja and Ashwin, there are absences of a more player catching plenty of eyeballs?
Kohli also explains why he dropped KL Rahul from the likely 11, saying the team wanted someone who could bat in the middle-order, so Dinesh Karthik is perfect for the same.
KL Rahul had tried his hand at the No. 4 spot a few times but he is indeed being fit at the middle-order bearing in mind he has always opened the innings, India is keen to look at the other options too.
On the other side, Rahane too is out of the question in the middle order as per Virat Kohli now Karthik is perfect so obviously he joined the squad.
“We look to give chances to players who have the ability to perform at this level. At the same time, we have to strike a right balance between youth and experience. DK has come in for KL because we didn’t want a situation that happened with Jinx (Rahane). He was forced to bat in the middle-order, KL has usually opened for the state team while Karthik bats regularly in the middle-order,” Kohli explained to a leading media portal.
Impressed with Rahane
Though Rahane is moderate okay for the team India, still he was not the first choice as opener for the team India when Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are almost fixed as an opener for the team India.
But Virat Kohli praised Rahane for using his all opportunities in order to prove his worth.
“He has grabbed his opportunities as the third opener; he has stood up and taken his chances. We can play only two openers and he understands the dynamics.” Kohli told.
