The charges

The superstar is accused of killing two blackbucks, hunting of which is forbidden and prohibited under the Wildlife Protection Act, at Kankani village in Jodhpur for the duration of filming the movie Hum Saath Saath Hain in 1990s era.

Actors Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam Kothari and a local resident, Dushyant Singh, are also alleged in the case alongside Salman Khan.

These charges have been filed under section 9/51 of the Wildlife Protection Act. If convicted, then the actor Salman Khan can perhaps to faces a maximum prison sentence of six years, and the minimum of 1 year.

The other accused – Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam and Sonali – have been charged with supporting the poaching (section 9/51 read with 52 of the Wildlife Protection Act) and illegal assembly (section 149 of the Indian Penal Code).

The penalty for this is the same as that for poaching – a minimum jail term of one year up to a maximum of six years.

October 1-2, 1998: Poaching of the 2 Chinkaras in Kankani village. The forest department on the 2nd October registered a report against people who were reportedly involved in the same, including, Salman, Saif, Tabu, Neelam, Sonali, Dushyant and Dinesh Ganware. Following the investigation, the forest department filed a complaint against Salman Khan and the others.

November 9, 2000: Chief Judicial Magistrate, Jodhpur takes cognizance.

February 19, 2006: Charges are framed against the alleged people.

March 23, 2013: Modify charges are framed against all alleged by a trial court. Frequent revision petitions, first by the defense in the session court, eventually, then by the trial in the high court, held up the prosecution for the 7 years.

May 2013: Trial of the case started in the Chief Judicial Magistrate court.
