The festival Uttarāyaṇa or Uttarayan is touted as the period between the January’s festivals Makara Sankranti, which is often, take place in 15th Jan.

In South India, (Tamil Nadu) the festival Sankranti is celebrated as Pongal, in other parts of India, the festival Sankranti is celebrated as Makar Sankranti or Sankranti. In Gujarat, the same festival is celebrated as the Uttrayan.

The word Uttrayan is taken from 2 different Sanskrit words “uttara” (North) and “ayana” (movement), so the word means the semantic of the northward movement of the Earth on the celestial sphere.

Uttrayan is the biggest festival of India and Gujarat which also marks the day when summer is all set to enter the world as per Hindu and as per the Indian calendar.

Uttrayan is a harvest festival which is celebrated in whole Gujarat with massive zeal and eagerness. On this day, everybody, all are generally, keen to celebrate the festival, so they all wake up in the early morning at the festival of Uttrayan.

Then every being performed puja and pray to god for happiness, health, wealth and then everybody with their friends and family enjoy and have time with each other.
