On the occurrence of Orissa Day or Utkal Divas, Odisha celebrates the day in the memory of the formation of the state as the individual, separate and free province from 1936.
Post the state lost its political identity completely in 1568, efforts resulted in the formation of a politically separate state under the British rule which was on the basis of their own ethnic language.
The main revolution in this divided state continued for three decades from the first day when the state Orissa was formed and on the basis of that in the whole Odisha people celebrates the Utkal Sammilani that led to the foundation of a separate Odisha Province.
Why is Utkal Day celebrated?
In the antique times, Orissa was the center of Kalinga kingdom, however, it was momentarily conquered (250 B.C.) by King Asoka and Maurya held which was around of the century.
As the Kalinga kingdom begs to be excused, a lot of Hindu dynasties arose and built temples at Bhubaneswar, Puri, and Konarak. Eventually, in the year 1958, Afghan invaders passed the state to the Mughal Empire.
Post, the fall of the Mughals, Orissa was alienated between the Nawabs of Bengal and the Marathas. In 1803, the British won over the state Orissa.
In the year 1912, the coastal section was detached from Bengal and declared the region of Bihar and Orissa. In a while in 1936 on April 1, the new province of Odisha was formed post a fight of nearly 350 years.
On November 9, 2010, Parliament of India renamed Orissa as Odisha and Oriya language as Odia.
