I’m Bengali, but I totally disagree with your statement. It is not like that. In Bengal, Hindi isn’t needed. You will see most people speak in Bangla or English. Hardly, people speak in Hindi there. Same goes with other states too.

It is really sad that only Tamil Nadu is shown as arrogant and Hindi haters. It is definitely not true. In fact, there are many Tamil actors and heroines who work at Bollywood and speak Hindi fluently. Basically, the Indian constitution has granted official language status to 22 Indian languages.

So, obviously, in Southern states and other places like Maharashtra, Bengal and North East, the common people just prefer their native language more for communication. It makes the entire communication process easy and free-flowing. I have seen many Tamilians who like and respect Hindi and even learn the same when required or whenever they wish too.

But just making it compulsory at non-Hindi speaking states won’t solve any purpose. What we should more concerned about is making English accessible to all. This is the only language in India that is truly important.

Every1 should learn English and practice it more alongside loving their mother tongues too. Imposing any language on any1 is not a good and prudent idea. Nobody in India talks about imposing English… that they should. Because anyhow in the long run, your job option and chances depend upon your English communication skills. So, rather than falling in this heated political debate, love all languages and love your mother tongue more. But don’t forget the value of English. Several people from Hindi-speaking states suffer badly due to non-English skills. I am happy that people in Southern states, especially Tamil Nadu, take English seriously and many represent India at the global platforms and world stage.

Note: I am a fan of Tamil Nadu 🙂 My current crush is Sai Pallavi and Malavika Menon. And they acted in Tamil films!
