What’s the fuss is all about

Relax guys. The news is real but its purpose is for a greater cause. The Swiss legend having already won 18 Grand Slam championships in his two decades long illustrious international Tennis career is set to play an exhibition match against the American Tennis star John Isner. He will then participate at an exhibition match to play one-set doubles game.

Surprisingly, his partner will be Bill Gates for the doubles game, while Isner is set to team up with an “undisclosed” celebrity partner. This is the fourth time “Match for Africa” Day will be held in the US for a larger cause being spearheaded by the Roger Federer Foundation this time.

Federer is also a legend when it comes to philanthropy with which he is associated to for the last several years. Roger Federer Foundation and Roger Federer Charitable Fund has already offered $29-million to give a massive boost to children’s educational infrastructure in six African countries and Switzerland.

The one set doubles game with Federer and Gates on one side and Isner and a “surprise celebrity” on the other will be held on April 29, and ticket for the same will go on sale from today onwards here. The sale proceeds of the same will be utilized for noble initiatives to be undertaken by Roger Federer Charitable Fund/Roger Federer Foundation later this year.

What Did Federer Have to Say on it?

“I believe in the power of people. We know that a good education is a decisive factor to empower children by allowing them to take their future into their own hands. With my foundation, we want to provide one million children with the opportunity for a quality education by the end of 2018. The Match for Africa 4 in Seattle will help us reach our ambitious goals. I am very grateful for this opportunity to collaborate with Bill Gates, who in my opinion is the world’s leading philanthropist,” said Roger Federer in his statement a few days back.

Similarly, Bill Gates, who is Tennis enthusiast himself, looks very excited for this event to be held on April 29 in Seattle.

“I’m a huge fan of Roger’s work on and off the court. We share a love of tennis (although he might be a little better than I am) and a belief that all children deserve a world-class education. Roger’s foundation does great work to support education in Africa, so it will be a lot of fun to play alongside him for such an important cause,” Gates said in a statement.
