Rishi Panchami is a Hindu festival observed on September 14, 2018, by Hindu women when they keep fast and offer puja and prayer to the god. This one is the fifth day, the next day after Ganesh Chaturthi day in Bhadrapad month as per the Lunar calendar.

The #RishiPanchami puja has involved the worship of Sapta Rishi. The seven sages – Kashyapa, Atri, Bharadhvaja, Vishvamitra, Gauthama, Jamadagni and Vashishta. In some parts of Kerala the day Rishi Panchami is actually observed as the Vishwakarma Puja.

The devotees fast and offer prayers at specific Muhurat on the festival Rishi Panchami. The Vedic term Rishi means “sages” who realize the supreme truth and knowledge post they go through a deep meditation.

The Sapta Rishi is the worship of sages that is consists of the Kashyapa, Atri, Bharadhvaja, Vishvamitra, Gauthama, Jamadagni, and Vashishta. The day Rishi Panchami is organized to make memories and commemoration of the sages who left worldly desires for the society.

In some parts of Kerala, #RishiPanchami is known as Vishwakarma Puja and on this day people also take the ritual bath in holy rivers then offer prayers and puja to the god.

Women who observe this puja offer Prasad to Gods and wash their husband’s feet. People worship Lord Ganesh, Navagraha which is the nine planetary Gods, Saptarshis, the 7 Sages and Arundathi.
