“When life is at war, the most powerful scream is silence.” These words open out as a blood-smeared Prabhu Deva drags himself around, and it seems like on the teaser of the movie Mercury he is like the prey.
Karthik Subbaraj’s Mercury is a dialogue-free thriller feature’ the actor Prabhu Deva in the lead role with Sanath Reddy, Deepak Paramesh, Indhuja and Remya Nambeesan. “In the memory of 84 people who died in this town due to mercury poisoning 1992,” reads the text on a tombstone which appeared on the teaser.
The movie Mercury is all set to hit theatres on this 13th April in “all languages” as per the teaser. Subbaraj rose to critical acclaim with his Siddharth-Bobby Simha starrer Jigarthanda (2014), and the film is now gearing up for its Hindi remake with Ajay Devgn and Farhan Akhtar.
With a bunch of horror movies/ thrillers movies are now collecting some good cash at the Indian screens recently; it definitely akin to be the flavor of the season.
The film is touted as a horror, as a genre, that is regarded as the experimented kind of movie within Indian cinema.
Though, the latest addition to the Indian roster of the horror movie is the forthcoming Prabhudeva starrer Mercury, which is helmed by Karthik Subbaraj.
So what’s special in this horror film ?
The movie Mercury is having all elements to join the horror league, for one — creepy soundtrack, misty surroundings, a paranormal demon and a group of enthusiastic folks these all elements making the movie interesting and thrilling one.
Though, what the movie offers us is this different from other horror flicks, is silence; so this Prabhu Deva’s movie is a silent horror flick.
Post-Subbaraj’s National Award winning-movie Tamil gangster films Jigarthanda, there are a plenty of expectations surround on this forthcoming project.
Being a silent movie, the background soundscape is very sharp and clear; that is what creates the eerie aura around this movie.
The movie’s premise is set around a misty, discarded place that bears the sad and horrific deaths of 84 people only because of the mercury poisoning. Prabhudeva’s character appears as one of those dead beings.
Now whether he is a ghost, zombie or an entity dangling between the realms of life and death it is yet to know in this movie.
But whatever it is, he does look horrific — bloodied, that can give you spine-chill thrilling.
