With Janatha Garage, Mohanlal becomes first Indian actor who received the very prestigious national award for different language movie, instead of his own language.
Mohanlal has added another feature which proved him that he is the man of different hats and indeed being a Malayalam actor he won the National Award for his Telugu movie which is incredible.
The names of winners of 64th National Film Awards on last Friday announced in which the Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar won first time National Film Award in his entire career. Akshay won the Best actor award for the recognition he received for the portrayal of Navy Officer Rustom Pavri in 2016 courtroom drama Rustom.
But this time on the 64th National Film Award who steals the show completely is the Malayalam actor Mohanlal who won his fifth national award on Friday for his performances in Telugu film “Janatha Garage” alongside the Malayalam films “Pulimurugan” and “Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol”.

So with this National Film Awards announcement, the Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has become the first Indian actor who is having a massive number of the National Awards on his kitty.
Mohanlal beats the four national awards records set by the legendary Bollywood actors Amitabh Bachchan and the Tamil actor Kamal Haasan. Actually, Mohanlal has now joined the league of Indian artists who are blessed with a maximum number of national awards.
So after the Bengali filmmaker Satyajit Ray and the Malayalam director, Adoor Gopalakrishnan Mohanlal became the third artist to achieve this feat, and the first actor to have 5 national awards on his kitty.
The three films for which Mohanlal received the national award is counted as the blockbuster flick, in fact, both “Janatha Garage” and “Pulimurugan” were Rs 100 crore grosser at the Box Office and 2016’s which is the highest grossing movies in both Telugu and Malayalam languages films.
The Malayalam film “Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol” is also super hit. Lalettan’s previous national award films are “Kireedam”, “Bharatham” and “Vanaprastham”.
