Tamil actor Vijay’s Mersal, hit theatres globally on 18th October and the film Mersal was touted as the Diwali release of the year.
The film Mersal which is touted as a social drama collected a whopping amount of $10 million marks approximately at the overseas box office.
Overall the foreign earning standing at $11.1 million (Rs. 71.8 crores) in just 12 days.
Apart from Mersal, till now the films which have crossed the $10 million mark in overseas are including, SRK’s Raeess, Prabhas-Anushka-starrer Bahubali Series, and Aamir Khan’s Dangal.
Raking in $10 million from overseas markets is proved an incredible milestone for any Tamil film, and it also displays the fast-rising box-office mettle of actor Vijay in foreign territories.

United Kingdom (UK)
Vijay’s films always collected good cash in U.K. generally.
So obviously, Mersal received an excellent run. In 12 days, with a total gross of £531,206 (Rs. 4.54 crores), after Rajnikanth’s Enthiran, Mersal has become the only south Indian movie to cross the half million mark.
So the film declares as the all-time highest-grosser list in the UK, only behind Enthiran (£615,966). In fact, Mersal out grossed Vijay’s previous super hit movie Theri..
The opening weekend numbers of Mersal £352,647 (Rs. 3 crores) overshadowed Rajinikanth’s Kabali to emerge as the all-time highest-opening Tamil film.
Mersal also opened to a flying start with the highest day-one figure of £ 94,311 (Rs. 81.08 lakhs) beating Kabali’s £93,385.
This weekend Mersal entered the top ten charts at the Australian box office and the film beat the much awaited Hindi film Golmaal Again.
In the beginning, the film gross of A$133,057 (Rs. 68 lakhs), setting the opening day record a Tamil film. Just after 4 days of run, Vijay’s film’s collection is around A$345,239 (Rs. 1.76 crores) which surpassed the lifetime gross of Ajith’s Vivegam.
The movie is also declared second biggest grosser of 2017 after Baahubali 2 Tamil.
After a total 12-day gross of A$ 484,956 (Rs. 2.4 crores), Mersal is now the third-highest grossing Tamil movie after Bahubali Series and Kabali (A$525,000).
Singapore, Sri Lanka, UAE, NZ and other regions
The action drama is also scraping up in the moolah at Sri Lanka, UAE, NZ, Singapore, and other regions. The movie is now in its first week, became the fastest Tamil movie to gross SGD 1 million in Singapore.
The number of UAE entries for the film touched 134K with an approximate proceeds income of $1.208 million (Rs. 7.85 crores) on 28th October.
On 19th to 22nd October, in the first weekend in UAE, the movie is managed to surpass the Bollywood movies Secret Superstar and Golmaal Again.
At the end of 8 days, the film in Sri Lanka was LRK 10 cr (Rs. 4.24 crores) around. It also declares the biggest opening for an Indian film in Sri Lanka. In New Zealand, Mersal released in 6 locations, which set a record of the opening weekend a reported gross of NZ$ 30,005 (Rs. 13.6 lakhs).
It is the second popular Tamil film after Baahubali 2. After the second weekend, the total gross in NZ now stands at NZ$ 38,013 (Rs 16.88 lakhs).
The movie created a record in the opening weekend record (October18-22) in Norway with a gross of NOK 307,134 ($38,473), outscoring Baahubali 2’s NOK 306,450 ($35,696).
