Born as Muhammad Kutty Paniparambil Ismail on 7th September 1951, is widely known as by his stage name Mammootty.

Mammootty gave around four decades in the Malayalam cinema and he worked in more than 350 films.

Mammootty was a lawyer by profession but somehow he leaves the legal profession in the 1980s, and joined the Malayalam cinema, to witness a noteworthy breakthrough with the commercial success of the movie New Delhi in 1987.

He has won three National Film Awards for Best Actor, seven Kerala State Film Awards and the 13 Filmfare Awards South. The Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri for his contributions to the cinema and arts In 1998.

In January 2010, He has also received honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Kerala, from the University of Calicut in December 2010.
