Married women across the whole country are gearing up for the celebrations of the pious festival Karwa Chauth. This year the pious festival falls on the 8th October 2017.

For this festival this year the moonrise time is 8:27 p.m. Karwa Chauth is regarded as the perfect celebrations when the married women dressing up to do their shringhar as well the women kept fast for whole day long. They can only break the fast after the moon.

The Karva Chauth fast is not so easy; the women stay deprived of not only food for the whole day, in fact, they can’t even take a sip of water. On this day the married women appear in the best outfits and eagerly waiting for the moon.

Karwa Chauth is also regarded as the Karak Chaturthi. Karwa or Karak means an earthen pot by using these pot women gives Arghya (offering) to the moon.  As per the Hindu calendar, the Karwa Chauth falls during the Krishna Paksha Chaturthi in the month of Kartik.

The festival is mainly celebrated by women from north India. Karwa Chauth is celebrated by married when they observe nirjala vrat (fast without food and water) for the whole day until they catch the site of the moon.

They pray for the safety and longevity of their husbands’ and there is also an interesting and old folklores and tales is having associated with the auspicious fast and festival Karwa Chauth. Women observing Karva Chauth break the fast post offering prayers to the moon.

Firstly women offer water to the moon by holding an Atta Chani in one hand as a part of their prayer.

Karwa Chauth Puja Vidhi

Women start their Karwa Chauth vrat after taking an oath (Sankalp). Karwa Chauth has a propensity to coincides with Sankashti Chaturthi the day dedicated to the worship of Lord Ganesha.

Though on the day of Karva Chauth all Hindus worship the Lord Ganesha and his entire family including Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Kartikeya are worshipped.

Goddess Parvati who plays a huge crucial role in the Hindu women and their marital life is worshipped first as Akhand Saubhagyavati during the Puja followed by Lord Shiva, Lord Kartikeya, and Lord Ganesha.

Hindu women apart from worshiping Maas Durga, they sing praises of Goddess Gaura and Chauth Mata who are a form of Goddess Parvati itself on the day of Karwa Chauth.

As per the Hindu scripture or textbook, the Vratraj, the best time to perform Karwa Chauth Puja is during Sandhya time means in the evening after the sun will be set.

After the moon rises, women should worship God Chandra and post offering their puja to the moon they can break the fast.

Karva Chauth 2017 Fast and Sargi

The festival is famous in the Northern India, especially some of the Indian states, celebratesthe carnival with full glory, like, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab. The women in this region observe fast and perform puja since dawn to dusk.

In this custom women wake up early in the morning before sunrise, at 4-5 am, to eat a plateful of savories and sweets so these are the only food which helps them to stay throughout the day without food and water.

As per the rituals and traditions, the mother-in-law presents a plate of savories and sweetmeats to her daughter-in-law and blesses them that they can complete the fast.

A Sargi preferably consists of matthri, dry fruits, coconut, mithai and some gifts like sarees, jewelry and so on.

Mehendi and Shringhar on Karva Chauth 2017

In the evening, women dress up beautifully with new clothes and jewelry as well they apply mehendi on their hands. Applying mehendi or henna is considered to be auspicious as well most important part of this sacred festival.

It is believed that the darker the mehendi, the more husbands is in love with his wife.

The Muhurat of this pious festival will start at the exact duration of time with the sacred puja should be done. The whole duration for this festival Pooja is for 1 hour and 14 minutes which will fall on this 8th of October.

The Chaturthi Tithi will start on the 8th of October on 04:58 PM and the Chaturthi Tithi will be come to end on the 9th of October on 02:16 PM.
