People across North India, particularly Hindus and Sikhs in Punjab, celebrate Lohri which marks the ending of the longest winter night. The festival also marks the beginning of spring which people celebrates with their friends and family together.
This is a popular festival which also consists of the Punjabi folk festival is believed to be the longest night of the as per the Lunar calendar. Mostly celebrated on January 13 when the festival commemorates the passing of the winter solstice which rejoices in some states of Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi.
As per the Hindu mythology, after this festival, the days start getting longer because the sun begins its journey towards the northward.
How To Celebrate This Harvest Festival
A bonfire is lit at night when everybody gathers and come together around it and throw peanuts, popcorn, jaggery among other things as well walking around it alongside simultaneously.
Women dress up in their traditional Punjabi attire to rejoice the carnival. Some celebrate the festival with Punjabi Folklore dance and they groove on the beat of dhol.
The festival is considered as the harvest festival of winter which marks the starting of the new financial year for farmers, which maintain the linked with the harvest of rabi crops.
