Higher Secondary School secures the top ranking position at the government school of her by scoring 474 marks in the SSLC exam. This is not a small thing and should not consider as small achievement as Higher Secondary School.

The girl, who wants to study agriculture, has managed to secure good marks and scores in Social Science, 99 in Tamil, 95 in Science, and 94 in English, 86 in Mathematics.

D.Uma Maheswari mother and father both are daily wage laborers engaged in the construction industry. Her father, B.Dharmaraj (56) is a Mason, Annalakshmi, her mother, accompanies her father in the construction laborer work. Uma Maheswari, who has two siblings, and she manages the household chores after her parents leave for work in the early morning.

The family lives in a broken down house in a small piece of land which they own at Anna Nagar near Kattur. “I want to study agriculture as I am interested in farming although we do not have any land. But I am not sure whether my parents can afford my higher studies,” said Uma Maheswari. She said that this is the result of her hard work and constant effort which help her to secure a good score in her study.

Her father is however determined and also make sure of it that all his three children have a good education. The couple earns about Rs. 400 a day and said to various media, “My son, the eldest, is pursuing final year diploma in the Government Industrial Training Institute. My youngest daughter is studying standard VIII. But I will work hard to fulfill the wishes of my children”.
