The festival Ganesh Chaturthi is rejoiced and celebrate as the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesh. The Lord Ganesha is worshipped On the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.
As per mythology and believed that Lord Ganesh was born during Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. at present Ganesh Chaturthi day falls in the month of August or September as per the English calendar.

Ganapati Sthapana and Ganapati Puja Muhurat

On the festival of on Ganesh Chaturthi, people should not sight the moon. Sighting moon on Ganesh Chaturthi creates Mithya Dosham or Mithya Kalank (कलंक) that is regarded as the false accusation of stealing something.
According to the Puranic legends, once Lord Krishna was falsely accused of stealing precious jewel named Syamantaka. Post seeing plights of Lord Krishna, Sage Narada also said and informed that Lord Krishna sighted moon on the day of Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi which has been also cursed with the Mithya Dosha as per reports.
Sage Narada further said that once Lord Krishna that God Chandra has been cursed by Lord Ganesha that anyone who sighted moon on Shukla Chaturthi during Bhadrapada month can be cursed with Mithya Dosha.
This can be tainted and dishonored in the society, this can be suggested that sage Narada Lord Krishna observed Ganesha Chaturthi in order to get rid of Mithya Dosha.
Mithya Dosha Prevention Mantra
Depending on the beginning and end time of Chaturthi Tithi, of the sighting of the moon might be prohibited for two consecutive days.
As per the DrikPanchang.com rules, Moon should not be sighted while Chaturthi Tithi is widespread and common. Supplementary, Moon risen during Chaturthi should not be sighted even if Chaturthi Tithi gets over earlier than moonset.
If any person has mistakenly sighted moon on Ganesha Chaturthi then he should chant the following Mantra in order to get rid of the curse –
